Leonardo da Vinci was an
astonishingly gifted person. He also distinguished himself as an inventor,
mathematician, engineer, naturalist and anatomist. The world knows him mainly
as the painter of ‘Mona Lisa’, the most famous painting in
history. Few people in the history have been so highly gifted as
Vinci. He was, in fact, a towering figure in the Italian renaissance. He
acquired great eminence as a painter, sculptor and architect in the world of
art. Leonardo da Vinci was undoubtedly a versatile genius who left his mark in
such diverse fields of studies as writing, music, painting, astronomy, science
and philosophy.
His masterpiece Mona Lisa brought him the universal fame as an
artist. Mona Lisa is the painting of a beautiful lady with an enigmatic smile
on her face. Mona Lisa is preserved in the famous Louvre museum of Paris and it
has enchanted millions of viewers through the ages. The 1 Last Supper and
Madonna are two other world renowned paintings of Leonardo da Vinci.
Leonardo da Vinci was also a great inventor and
the credit of the invention of Odometer, wrench, magic lantern etc. goes to
him. Leonardo da Vinci also made notable contribution in Geography and in
Astronomy he is credited with the invention of scientific methods for its
study. Besides, it was Leonardo da Vinci who first dreamed up the idea of tank
and parachute.
Leonardo da Vinci was born
in 1452, in Vinci (Italy). Later, he settled in Florence, the centre of the
Italian renaissance. As a painter, he was deeply, attached to nature and liked
to draw animals, birds and other creatures in nature. He prepared models of
printing presses, mills and many scientific instruments at a time when nobody
had even the remotest idea about these inventions. This wonderfully talented
man died in 1519.
